Rote Island is known as the southernmost island in Indonesia. But there is still another island south of Rote, Ndana Island.
To get to Rote Island, we can cross by ferry from Kupang. The crossing time is 3 hours. If you want to faster, get on a plane from Kupang. There are direct flights from Kupang to Rote everyday by Wings Air and Trans Nusa.
As a tourist destination, Rote is famous for two things: Sasando and surfing. Sasando is a traditional musical instrument made from bamboo and woven palm leaves.
The most popular locations for surfing in Rote are Oeseli Beach and Nembrala Beach. This location has hosted international surfing competitions several times.
But if you are not a fan of surfing, there are still many other beautiful spots on this island, such as Nembrala Beach and Oeseli Beach which are famous as places to enjoy the sunset.
